FY 2011 Japan Department Stores Association Business Plan
For New Growth after the Earthquake through "Competition and Coexistence"
Although the Japan Department Stores Association had been preparing the FY 2011 Action Plan to expand the last year’s activities, the social and economic situations surrounding the department stores largely changed due to the Tohoku Region Pacific Coast Earthquake on March 11. We, therefore, decided to newly focus on addressing immediate challenges including reconstruction support in the disaster area and power saving measures in addition to the usual activities initially planned. We will continue to actively promote our joint activities for new growth after the earthquake based on "Competition and Coexistence" with the belief that the stabilization and development of local communities is of major importance for the business activities of department stores and that revitalization of economy including personal consumption is vital to the restoration of the disaster area.
◇ Classification of Activities (Categorization)
In principle, we continue to use the last year’s activity categorization system for the FY 2011 Action Plan.
Specifically, we organize our activities in a three-level hierarchy. First, we divide the activities in the following four major categories: "Efforts for Structural Reform and Sales Activity Support", "Efforts for Policy Recommendation and Regulation Conformance", "Efforts for Social Activities and Pursuit of Business Value", and "Efforts of Local Associations". We position general activity issues on the next level (middle category) and then put individual activities under them.
Projects for various issues related to earthquake countermeasures and disaster area support are conducted by each standing committee as part of their individual activities. For example, the Sales Promotion Committee is organizing a joint charity campaign.

◇ Organization of Committees (Activity Promotion Body)
In FY 2011, we continue to use the existing organization of the committees, which mainly promote each activity, because they were already radically restructured to the form suited to the action plan last year. To conduct new projects such as the power saving project in the local associations, we set up a special working group (an organization under the standing organization such as committee) as needed for agile action.
